What a great night! We had representatives from High Point University, Alamance Community College, UNC-Greensboro, Guilford Technical Community College, and N.C. State University that spent a lot of time with our STEM X participants. The evening started out with three rotating sessions:
- College students who led a discussion about student life, tips and tricks, etc.
- College professors who led a discussion about expectations of college-level courses, what the most successful students do, what kind of preparation they need for college majors
- Admissions representatives who discussed testing, high school preparation, pros and cons of four-year college versus community college, extracurricular activities that are most valuable on the application, the importance of grammar and proofreading applications and essays, etc.
After the rotating sessions, the participants had a chance to visit individually with each of the schools and talk with them, take printed materials/catalogs, and see what each school has to offer. The young men and women were very engaged with the representatives and had a lot of open discussion with them which made all of us proud! Check out some pictures of the evening.
