4th STEM Merit Badge College is Around the Corner!

I know it’s only August but December is not far away and it’s never to early to get excited about our next STEM event! On December 10, 2016, the Old North State Council will host the STEM Merit Badge College at the STEM Early College at N.C. A&T State University. This will be the fourth year of this program, which has been located at the STEM Early College since its inception. The program is designed similar to other merit badge colleges except with a focus on merit badges that highlight all the areas of STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math).

The STEM Merit Badge College has a history of filling up all available spaces within a few weeks of opening and the most popular classes always go first! The final list of offerings this year is still being confirmed but the program will offer some favorites like Game Design, Robotics, and Programming merit badges. Also offered will be some programs designed specifically for Webelos Scouts (4th grade) and Arrow of Light Scouts (5th grade) so they can work on Cub Scout Adventures related to STEM while also getting exposure to a Boy Scout level program.

The fee will be $18 per Scout but Scouts who register by the Early Bird deadline will qualify for the discounted $14 rate. This fee includes the event patch, any program supplies used, and lunch. Unit STEM Coordinator training will be offered again this year for all adult leaders who want to learn more about the Nova and Supernova Award program, or they just want to help implement STEM in their unit. The fee for Unit STEM Coordinator training will be $10 per adult. Deadlines and registration information will be mailed out in September to all registered Boy Scouts, Webelos, and Arrow of Light Scouts as well as Boy Scout adult leaders in the Old North State Council and posted on this page and the Facebook page for everyone to see. Scouts and leaders from other councils are welcome to register and attend but registration will be open for Old North State Council Scouts first.

Don’t miss out on this great opportunity! Registration has always filled up quickly so stay on the lookout for the details and mark your calendars for December 10, 2016. We’ll see you there!
