The 21st Century Scout Merit Badge Series is a new program of the Old North State Council. It focuses on merit badge opportunities for Boy Scouts that help to prepare them for the 21st century world we live in. Most merit badges in this series will be based on technology but Sustainability merit badge is included as well because it is an important concept to remember as we develop new technology and design new cities, homes, and structures.
The program will launch on November 12, 2016 with Sustainability merit badge. The class will begin at 9:00 am at the Old North State Council office in Greensboro and end at 4:00 PM at the Proximity Hotel, the nation’s first ever LEED Platinum certified hotel. To be LEED Platinum certified, the Proximity Hotel has to continue to meet extremely high standards of sustainable operation.
Registration for the Sustainability merit badge will begin on Friday, October 21st at 8:00 PM and can be completed online by following this link: 21st Century Scout Merit Badge Series – Sustainability. The fee is $10 per Scout and includes all materials needed plus lunch.
Sustainability merit badge is an Eagle Scout-required alternate for the Environmental Science merit badge. It’s a great option if you wanted to take Environmental Science at the STEM Merit Badge College but were unsuccessful in securing a spot. Spaces for this event are extremely limited so please be ready to register at 8:00 PM on Friday, October 21st. Please note that Scouts will NOT complete the merit badge at this event. Several requirements mandate that the Scout do certain activities in their own home over a period of weeks or months. Scouts will received guidance at the event for how to complete these requirements after the event ends. The counselor will be happy to communicate with Scouts after the event to certify completion of those requirements.
Good luck with registering! We’ll see you there!
