Cub Scout Earns First Dr. Luis Alvarez Supernova Award in the Old North State Council!

Jeremiah Workman of Pack 65 in Saxapahaw, NC Receives the Cub Scout Supernova Award

Since the Nova and Supernova Awards program launched in 2012, the Old North State Council has had dozens of Webelos Supernova Awards as well as a couple of Boy Scout Supernova Awards earned throughout the council. But in that much time, we have never had a motivated and determined Cub Scout strive to earn the Dr. Luis W. Alvarez Supernova Award (aka Cub Scout Supernova Award) that only Wolf and Bear Scouts can earn. Until now!

Tonight, I had the honor of awarding the Old North State Council’s first recipient of the Dr. Luis W. Alvarez Supernova Award to Cub Scout (now Webelos Scout) Jeremiah Workman of Pack 65 in Saxapahaw, North Carolina. Jeremiah had to learn about Dr. Luis W. Alvarez and a few other scientists, complete several Cub Scout Adventures, complete a science project with his teacher, and learn about the science of Pinewood Derby racing to earn his Cub Scout Supernova Award.

Just days after Jeremiah’s award was approved, seven more Cub Scouts were also approved to receive the Dr. Luis Alvarez Supernova Award. Congratulations to William Gaunt, Andrew Morgan, Jensu Rmah, Cullen Rembach, Daniel Sharp, Wesley Walker, and Darius Williams of Pack 316 in Greensboro, North Carolina for receiving their awards!

What an awesome achievement for these eight Cub Scouts! I look forward to seeing their applications for the Dr. Charles H. Townes Supernova Award as they move into Webelos and work towards the Arrow of Light!
