Counselors/Mentors

Nova Counselors are adults, 21 years or older, who work with Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, or Venturers as they earn their Nova Awards. They must register as a Nova Counselor under code 58 and no fee is required. To register as a Nova Counselor, the volunteer only needs to submit a BSA Adult Registration Form to the Scout office.

Supernova Mentors are adults, 21 years or older, who work with Cub Scouts, Webelos, Boy Scouts, or Venturers as they earn their Supernova Awards. Mentors must register as a Supernova Mentor under code 52 and no fee is required. To register as a Supernova Mentor, the volunteer needs to submit a BSA Adult Registration Form and a Supernova Mentor Application to the Scout office. Supernova Mentors must be approved by the council STEM Committee.

Both Nova Counselors and Supernova Mentors must be currently trained in Youth Protection. The certificate of completion should be submitted with the above applications. Training for Nova Counselors is offered by the Old North State Council several times per year. The next Unit STEM Coordinator Training will be announced soon.
