What Are the Supernova Awards?

The Supernova Awards were created to expand on the Nova Award series and further develop interest and a deeper knowledge of the fields of science, technology, engineering, and math. The requirements for each Supernova Award are more difficult than those for the Nova Awards and get increasingly more difficult and time-consuming as a youth moves from Cub Scouts to Webelos to Boy Scouts to Venturing.

What Age Can Participate?

Supernova Awards can be earned by any registered Cub Scout, Webelos Scout, Boy Scout, or Venturer. They are not available for Tigers at this time.

Are There Any Prerequisites?

Cub Scouts and Webelos Scouts can being working on their respective Supernova Awards as soon as they like although it is recommended that they earn at least two Nova Awards before beginning their Supernova Awards.

Boy Scouts and Venturers must have earned at least three Nova Awards in their program before beginning work on a Supernova Award. Also, the Boy Scout and Venturing Supernova Awards are either bronze, silver, or gold. Before a Boy Scout can begin to work on the silver award, he must have earned the bronze award. Before a Venturer can begin to work on the silver award, he/she must have earned either the Boy Scout or Venturer bronze award. Before a Venturer can begin to work on the gold award, he/she must have earned either the Boy Scout or Venturer silver award.

What Recognition is Available?

For every Supernova Award, there is a beautiful medal hung from a neck ribbon.
